      • USB Input Sources
      • Analog In Sources
      • Digital In (optical/Coax) Sources
      • Streaming built-in sources
      • HDMI Sources
    • AVR-X1500 & AVR-X2500 will send USB, Analog In and Streaming sources to Zone 2. AVR-X1500 & AVR-X2500 will NOT send Digital In (optical/Coax) Sources & HDMI Sources to Zone 2.
    • AVR-X3400 and all models above will send all sources to Zone 2/3/4
    • TO BE CONFIRMED
  • 2018 AV Receivers - Can the AVR-X250 and AVR-X550 (non-networkable) be controlled by a mobile/tablet app?
    • Yes, using Bluetooth and the Denon 500 Series Remote app
    • IOS app: https://itunes.apple.com/cy/app/denon-500-series-remote/id945294317?platform=iphone&preserveScrollPosition=true#platform/iphone
    • Android app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dmholdings.denonbtremote&hl=en
    • To be confirmed for AVR-X250
  • 2018 AV Receivers - How do I use ARC with my Samsung TV?
    • With Samsung televisions, you as the user can choose whether the TV audio is output directly via the television or the connected AV receiver.
If both components are connected to the ARC, on the switched-on Samsung TV select the CEC function via the Tools button and then select Receiver - if the HDMI control of the receiver is activated, the device name should also be available. Switch the "Receiver" function to "On" - the AV receiver will be switched to Source TV and will play back the TV audio.
      General Instructions:
Please check first of all whether A/V-Receiver and Television are available via the Audio Return Channel function (ARC). Modern televisions ONLY have an ARC-compatible input (generally marked as ARC at the input). Please use this ONLY for the connection with the A/V receiver.
In order to transmit the TV audio from the television to the A/V receiver via HDMI, you must connect an HDMI cable from the ARC-compatible input of the TV to the HDMI-Monitor-Output of the receiver.
In the set-up menu of the A/V receiver you must set the item HDMI Settings - HDMI Control to "ON" (more detailed information can be found in the user manual on the pages on HDMI Control).
In order to ensure the smooth transmission of all video resolutions, we recommend the use of HIGH SPEED cables.
Should your TV or A/V receiver not have the ARC function, select an alternative option for transferring the audio of television programmes or select a co-axial digital connection between the receiver and your TV. If you are using a co-axial cable, then you must assign the corresponding input in the menu as the TV input.
  • AV Receivers & HEOS - I cannot get TV sound on my HEOS devices when streaming TV AUDIO from the HEOS powered AVR to my HEOS devices. What can I do?
    • Please note that you are only able to stream 2 channel PCM signals to other HEOS devices. If you input a bitstream signal via optical, coaxial or ARC, there will be no sound even in case the HEOS app displays that TV AUDIO is running. This is also the case if your AVR and your HEOS speaker are grouped. To use TV AUDIO over HEOS, configure the output of your TV and set it to PCM.

  • AV Receivers & HEOS -Is it possible to use HEOS speakers as surround speakers with my Denon HEOS powered AVR?

  • AV Receivers & HEOS - Is it possible to “send” the sources (connected by HDMI or optical/coax or analog audio) connected to HEOS enabled AVR (AVR-X1500 model and up) to other HEOS speakers/zones?

    • Yes, using the HEOS APP. Make sure the HDMI/digital sources are set to PCM and not bitstream.

  • HEOS - What is required to make HEOS work properly in my network environment?
  • HEOS: HEOS Home Cinema - Is it possible to expand the HEOS HomeCinema to a Surround System?
    • It is not possible to combine other speakers as surround speakers with the HEOS HomeCinema.

The HEOS HomeCinema features a virtual surround technology that delivers an impressive surround effect from only the compact soundbar and the wireless subwoofer.
The HEOS HomeCinema is thus an independent soundbar / subwoofer system and therefore can not be extended to a 5.1 surround system.

Anyhow, you are able to group other speakers to the HEOS HomeCinema when listening to sound from external sources. This TV Sound Grouping functionality should only be used if the grouped speakers are not in the same room / area. Therefore, volume control via remote control will allow you to control the volume of the HEOS HomeCinema only, but not the grouped speakers.

If you want to build up a whole surround system with surround speakers and subwoofer, we recommend to use the HEOS Bar or the HEOS AVR.

  • HEOS: HEOS Bar & HEOS AVR - Which speaker configurations are possible with HEOS Bar or HEOS AVR?

3.0 (Front Left, Center, Front Right) without any additional components
3.1 with the optional HEOS Subwoofer
5.0with two optional HEOS speakers or the HEOS Amp (and two additional passive speakers)
5.1 with the optional HEOS Subwoofer AND two optional HEOS speakers or the HEOS Amp (and two additional passive speakers).

The HEOS AVR is a 5.1 surround receiver which allows you the following speaker configurations:

2.0 with two passive Front speakers
2.1 with two passive Front speakers AND a subwoofer (either cabled subwoofer) or the optional HEOS Subwoofer

5.0 with five passive speakers (Front Left, Center Front Right, Surround Left, Surround Right) OR with three passive Front speakers (Front Left, Center, Front Right)and with two optional HEOS speakers or the HEOS Amp (and two additional passive speakers)
5.1 with five passive speakers (Front Left, Center Front Right, Surround Left, Surround Right) OR with three passive Front speakers (Front Left, Center, Front Right)and with two optional HEOS speakers or the HEOS Amp (and two additional passive speakers) AND a subwoofer (either wired or the optional HEOS Subwoofer).

    • HEOS Drive & Suplerlink zones with passive speakers will not work as surround zones for the Heos Bar and Heos AVR. i.e HEOS Drive & Superlink canonly be used for Multi-Room Audio applications.

New HEOS firmware - U19.

See below the changelog at a short glance:

  • Bluetooth assisted Wifi onboarding (BLE): This means you don’t need to use the mini jack cable to add HEOS devices any more. The WiFi password transmission is done via a BT connection, so it’s pretty cool and very convenient. Supported HEOS devices (HEOS Speaker of HS2 Generation, HEOS Bar, HEOS HomeCinema HS2, HEOS AVR, HEOS Link and HEOS Amp). Attention: This new method will only work with U18 or higher installed on with the HEOS device.
  • Adding of IMAX Enhanced to more models: AVR-X4500H, AVC-X6500H
For those that might have missed it: Philip Jones (Sound United’s Training Director in the US ) explained IMAX Enhanced during their demo’s at CES. It’s worthwhile spending a couple of minutes to view this piece, to get a better understanding of IMAX Enhanced, why we have it and why it is superior. You can view it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGnoypS78U4

Some more details, including a 1-hour webinar, can be found here: https://www.residentialsystems.com/technology/6-things-we-learned-at-the-imax-enhanced-investigated-webinar

  • Adding of IMAX Audio settings to the top model AVC-X8500H
  • Adding /Deleting of Tuner Presets with the HEOS App at CEOL
  • Adding of two additional tabs for the Web menu: “Network” + “General” for the models AVR-X1500H, AVR-X2500H, AVR-X3500H, AVR-X4500H, AVC-X6500H
  • Bugfixing: sound interrupts via ARC connection
  • Additional performance improvements and bugfixing
