Her latest album Ventriloquism, arriving four years after her last, is a selection of 80s and 90s classics that the singer grew up with, reinterpreted with a sound and a style so personal and unique that you forget that they are covers. The album features iconic tracks from Prince, TLC and Janet Jackson, as well as Sade's Smooth Operator, a 1984 hit well-known to Hong Kong music lovers. Opening with a monologue, Ndegeocello's version of Smooth Operator boasts an edgy synth bassline, groovy beats and her mesmerizing voice, making it a stunning reimagination of an old classic.
